Guided Reading LevelYou can find your child's instructional reading level on their report card. Use this letter to help you search for books that meet your child's indivdual needs. The Scholastic Book Wizard link above will help you search for "just right" books. Students have also learned the "Finger" Rule to help them choose a book if they are unsure of the level:
1. Look at the cover. 2. Read the title and the author. 3. Read the blurb on the back. 5. Read one random page. 6. Use the 5 Finger Rule to count mistakes / struggles. 0-1 Fingers—Too Easy 2-3 Fingers—Just Right 4-5 Fingers—Too Hard |
Reading CountsEach week students are allowed to check out two books from the media center. Please encourage your child to check out atleast one "Reading Counts" book. These books are color coded with circle stickers on the spine. Below, please find a chart to help you identify a "just right" book. Students are enouraged to take the comprehension quiz during our computer lab sessions on Wednesday mornings.
