Reader's WorkshopMini Lesson - short (5-10 minute) focused lesson where the teacher directly instructs a skill, strategy, or habit students will need to use in independent work.
Independent Reading and Conferring - Following the mini-lesson, students will read independently while practicing the skill, strategy, or habit. During this time, the teacher and para-professional will confer with individuals or small groups of students. Partnership / Group Work & Sharing - occasional time will be allotted for students to read and talk together, as well as provide support for stamina. |
Writer's WorkshopThe Writer's Workshop model follows a similar routine to reader's workshop. We will begin the year with Personal Narratives and then progress into Informational writing, including a research component. Throughout the year and particularly in the spring, we will be preparing the students for the M-STEP with Performance tasks that focus on providing reasons and evidence. We will conclude the year with an Opinion writing piece.
